Question by Layla: How long does a laptop stay “at risk” after connecting to a public wi-fi network?
For example, when one is at starbucks, other people on that network can steal things like credit card numbers. Can they only do such things when I’m connected to that certain network or will they be in my computer for good?

Only while you are connected to that network.

Make sure you have Windows Firewall (or another firewall) running, and make sure that your network settings are set to “Private.”

  1. joeaudio2000 says:

As long as you are connected to a public network you are vulnerable

  2. Aaron says:

Only when connected to that network. People could steal it by using their computer to monitor wireless signals that are being transmited nearby.

But They can’t monitor your wireless transition, if you aren’t transmiting anything.
