www.americanroadmap.org Congressman Paul Ryan continues his efforts to advance an adult conversation on the urgent need to protect Social Security for current and future generations. Ryan’s efforts were met — again — with false attacks earlier today on CNN’s Situation Room in a spirited exchange with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. By pushing desperate demagoguery and no solutions, leading Democrats threaten to shred the critical social safety net as our crushing burden of debt explodes and our critical health and retirement security programs collapse. Facts on Social Security and Ryan’s Roadmap Should politicians continue to cling to the unsustainable status quo, Social Security will not be able to meet its promise to our seniors, imposing painful benefit cuts on those most reliant on this critical program. The Social Security Administration continues to warn of across-the-board 22% benefit cuts for seniors in the heart of their retirement when the Trust Fund is exhausted. Social Security continues to run annual cash deficits, with over trillion in unfunded liabilities. To meet this challenge, Congressman Paul Ryan offered an invitation for solutions — putting forward a specific plan the Congressional Budget Office and the Social Security Administration’s Chief Actuaries confirmed would save Social Security, making it sustainably solvent for current and future generations. @abe2517 I didn’t weasel out of the obligation, the federal government did. I never mentioned the fed, but yeah, it’s unconstitutional as well. If it’s necessary to touch all your salient points in response, perhaps you should list them. And that last line, did you get it from Keith Olbermann?

  4. abe2517 says:

@Torpedo8 – No time needed. I don’t trust either and neither should you. When the market is as fixed against the retail investor as it currently is, then no I would never put a dime into it. I also wouldn’t trust the government who continuously raids the SS trust fund – UNDER BOTH PARTIES. Also – the obligation is moral if not legal, and any attempt to weasel out of it while failing to mention the unconstitutional nature of the fed is the height of hypocrisy and inhumanity. Shame on you sir!!

  5. Torpedo8 says:

@abe2517 The federal government is under no obligation to pay retirees their SS. Nestor v. Flemming (1957). It’s not sacrosant in any sense. The promises, lockboxes, sacred trusts, etc. is all blather. So which is the riskier scheme? Investing in the market, or trusting a politician to give you your money back? You want some time on that one?

  6. Torpedo8 says:

    What a painful bitch.

  7. MsZeitgeist85 says:

OMG!!!! How did this bubble-headed Bleach blond get elected? She is CLUELESS!
Paul Ryan is simply Brilliant! He never has to rely on “talking Points”. He has? answers. Answers that make sense. Economic common sense. I hope Congress and the nation will follow his lead. America needs a leader like Paul Ryan right now.

  9. abe2517 says:

Social security isn’t an entitlement, it is a debt owed to our retirees – a debt that is every bit as sacrosanct as the debt we our domestic and our foreign creditors. If any one should get defaulted on or short changed – it’s THE FEDERAL RESERVE!!!

  12. BlueBlueFeelin says:

@michaelsasylum essentially, he makes it sound like he’s done the tough thinking for all of us so we don’t have to. i bet he is a hardcore numbers man, just one who dedicates his time to distorting the truth for the advantage of the wealthy and big business- and to the detriment of the middle class. he definitely seems likeable, but my money is on him being a complete tool. he is republican, after all. sorry you had to be the recipient of my post lunch rant.

  13. BlueBlueFeelin says:

@michaelsasylum just because he uses numbers and statistics doesn’t mean he isn’t completely full of shit. he throws out a bunch of data that isn’t really meant to be followed by the average viewer, but hey, he sounds smart right? then he ties it together with a make-sense kind of closer like, “if it’s good for us here in congress, why isn’t it good enough for everyone else?” then the viewer is meant to think, “oh how reasonable. I like this paul ryan and his numbers and reasonable motifs.”

  14. DRisLegend200919 says:

why wasn’t america this upset when bush or clinton was president?

This Milton Freedman Bullshit Artist Paul Ryan needs to quit congress and become a Goldman Sachs lobbyest.

If Bullshitting was money Paul Ryan could bail out Wall St and the auto companys with cash to spare.

  21. gavrilo2007 says:

who puts out a budget to get a consensus of “me”? Does that make any sense? Why does the republican party run from Ryan’s plan?
